You guys, I am so excited! On SexyTofu, I don’t normally write about animal advocacy or animal cruelty. Although I am passionate about animals, this is a food/sex space! I do, however write about it occasionally for other vegan outlets, especially if it is something I am passionate about. After watching Vanishing of the Bees, an eye opening documentary about Colony Collapse Disorder, I got hopped up enough to write this article in one of my weekly columns on Vegan Mainstream. Go ahead and read all about it—it is both amazing, and terribly sad.
However, that is not why I am excited. I am excited because my favorite model/actress turned crazy animal sex educator, Isabella Rossellini, recently made a video about the heartbreaking, mysterious epidemic that is wiping out all of our bees. For those of you who didn’t read my “Banging Bugs” post, Rossellini has made several video series about the mating and seduction habits of animals. (Anyone follow my Twitter feed? Sometimes I Tweet about animal sex habits.)
At some point, Rossellini started adding tips at the end of her videos about how we can save our animals, so I got the notion that she was an advocate. Sex, science and animal advocacy? Dig you, ladyface! Doesn’t help that she is the daughter of actress Ingrid Bergman, and was once married to Martin Scorsese.
Okay okay, back to bees. Rossellini has teamed up with Burt’s Bees to spread awareness about Colony Collapse Disorder, a phenomenon where worker bees disappear from their hives, abandoning their queens! I’m talking thousands and thousands of bees just peacin’ out for no reason! No one can figure out why, but they believe pesticides may be behind it.
Isabelle Rossellini may just be my second favorite bizarro video making genius. My first is my boyfriend. Aww. But really, her stuff is great, so watch it and learn something. Not convinced? In the video, she dresses like both a man (“Burt” to be specific) and a bee, and IsaBurt and IsaBee talk to each other about bee sex. Inspired yet?
The video doesn’t go into details about CCD, (read my VM post for that!), but it talks about how important and amazing bees are! They are not just annoying pests that make you irrationally terrified, embarrassing yourself at barbecues as you run around screaming like a little girl. Please, I know I said I wouldn’t preach animals here but…without bees, we have no vegetables! Think of the vegetables!!!
Okay, okay! The video. Take it, you hyenas!
